What is a Doula and for whom?

Although more and more attention is being paid to Doula guidance, many people still wonder what a Doula is and what added value she has. As a Doula, I assist women (and their partners) in preparing for childbirth and am physically and emotionally available from the moment the baby really arrives. I do this (usually) in addition to the guidance of an obstetrician or gynecologist and I mainly focus on emotional and practical preparation.

This means you are informed and prepared for what happens during childbirth, you know what the options and choices you have are and you have a committed and well-informed birth coach at your side, no matter how your birth goes. What a Doula is for you can mean, depends on what you would like to do with it. In any case, I will help you get started in the world of childbirth, I can assist you practically, emotionally and physically before and during the birth. I translate for you if necessary and I help your partner find and keep his/her place in your birth experience.

From week 20 in the pregnancy we plan a number of sessions, in which I will guide you step by step through everything you need to feel well informed.

From week 38 to week 42 I will be on call for you 24/7 and if I am there, I will stay for 1.5 to 2 hours after delivery. I won't go until I know you're in good hands! A few weeks after your delivery I will come by to discuss, share photos and of course to admire the baby :-)

Maybe you feel insecure about your delivery or you don't really know what is possible and allowed. You have had an unpleasant experience that has left you anxious or tense. Or your partner is unsure what to do to support you during the birth. In all cases, as a Doula, I will support you without judgment and inform you about everything you have questions about and lovingly guide you in this wonderful adventure!
